Sharon Wheeler's ScarWork

Supporting Your Body To Heal, Integrate, And Feel At Home Again

What Is ScarWork?

ScarWork is a gentle, specialised hands-on therapy designed to improve the quality, mobility, and comfort of scar tissue. Using light, precise techniques, it works directly with the scar and surrounding tissues to help restore movement, reduce restriction, and support the body’s natural healing process.

This approach is suitable for both recent and older scars, including post-surgical, injury-related, and internal scarring.

Many people seek ScarWork not only for physical discomfort, but because their scar feels unfamiliar — numb, sensitive, or not fully part of them. This work offers a safe and supportive way to reconnect with the area and restore a sense of ease and integration within the body.

How Scar Tissue Affects the Body

Scar tissue forms as part of the body’s natural healing process. However, it can become dense and sticky over time, causing tissues to adhere to each other or nearby structures. This can lead to discomfort, limited movement, and sometimes impact internal organs — including the bladder, reproductive, or digestive systems. In some cases, scar tissue may even contribute to fertility challenges.

Beyond the physical effects, some people experience pain or restriction they can’t fully explain, which may be linked to scar tissue.

It Is Never Too Late To Start Healing A Scar

Your first session will include a full consultation and assessment where we will agree on a treatment plan and strategy to address what you need help with.

My Approach

Using light, gentle techniques, I work directly with the collagen and elastin fibres in scar tissue to reduce pain, improve function, and help the tissue reintegrate with the rest of the body. The aim is to release, rehydrate, and realign the scar, supporting both physical and emotional healing, and allowing the tissues to settle back into their natural place — to feel more at home within the body.

What You Might Feel (During and After)

You may experience sensations such as warmth, tingling, a sense of release, or emotional shifts — all signs the body is processing and letting go of tension. Treatments are gentle, and you remain fully supported throughout the process.

After treatment, many clients report feeling a sense of softness, ease, and improved movement in the area. There is often reduced sensitivity or discomfort, alongside a greater feeling of connection — as though the scar becomes more integrated and part of the body again.

Frequently Asked Questions

What types of scars can be treated?

Scar work can be beneficial for all types of scars, including surgical scars (e.g. C-section, joint replacements), injury scars, burns, cosmetic surgery scars, and internal adhesions from trauma or illness.

Can older scars still benefit from treatment?

Yes. Scar tissue can respond to treatment no matter how old it is. Even decades-old scars can show improvement in mobility, appearance, and related symptoms.

Will the treatment hurt?

No. Scar work is very gentle. I use light, sustained techniques that do not force the tissue. Many clients are surprised at how subtle yet effective the treatment is.

Can this help with internal issues like digestive or reproductive problems?

Yes. Internal scar tissue and adhesions can impact organs and overall function. Scar work can help release restrictions that may be contributing to symptoms like bloating, period pain, or discomfort after surgery.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends on the nature and depth of the scar. Some people feel improvement after just one session, while others with more complex or layered issues may benefit from a course of treatments.

Sessions are typically spaced around 3 weeks apart to allow the body time to recover, process, and fully integrate the work.

Will scar work change the appearance of my scar?

Sometimes, yes — especially in terms of softening, flattening, and improving colour or texture. However, the main focus is on restoring function, releasing restriction, and reducing sensitivity or discomfort.

Is scar work suitable after recent surgery?

Yes, but we wait until the scar has fully healed — typically around 6–8 weeks post-surgery (or longer if advised by your medical provider). You must also have been signed off by your surgeon before beginning treatment. Early support can help prevent adhesions and improve healing outcomes.

Can it help with numbness or sensitivity in a scar?

Yes. Scar work often improves nerve function and sensory changes around a scar, helping reduce numbness, tingling, or hypersensitivity.

Personal Note

As someone who has had two emergency caesarean sections, I understand first-hand how scars can impact both the body and how you feel within it. If you have any questions or would like to talk through whether this treatment is right for you, please feel free to get in touch.
